Blogs in the classroom
I see many of my students for all content area classes and they are in grades 6-8, roughly on grade level. One of my students is highly motivated by technology and asked me today if we could create a class blog! I have only the starts of ideas in terms of LA or Social Studies... my curriculum is pretty open due to the nature of my program. Does anyone have creative thoughts on how to use a blog rather than simply "penpals" or for sharing class information home? Not so sure which direction I'd like to go...

I was thinking of starting blogs with my students too, although they are only in grades K-3, so I'm not sure how that would go at first, especially since they all have very limited computer skills. I thought it would be a good alternative to Friday journals (which I was planning on doing anyways), as a way to communicate with their parents about anything they want to share throughout the week. I have a feeling some of my students would prefer this to writing, since that is an activity that tends to set them off. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI also want to start a blog with my fifth graders! As a school, we are trying to work on improving communication with parents and my plan is to connect the blog to our fifth grade website. Parents can access the website and keep themselves up to speed on what is happening in the classroom and what their children are working on. Best of luck with your blogs!
ReplyDeleteI find myself in the same position, wondering what exactly to blog about let along figuring out a certain starting point for doing that! Luckily I found some blog inspiration and thought it seemed fitting to share! I think Social Studies would be a great class to initiate it in, the worldly perspective has the potential to be very inspiring!
